Costs of Basic Needs |
The items in this survey were priced at local markets in Tangerang, Indonesia. Guided by our translator and a number of workers from Nikes factories, we chose items that workers would consider purchasing. Please note that with their current wage, they can afford only some of the items listed. Many of the items, including basic necessities such as medicines, are not within their financial means.

Household Items |
Our translator explained to the store owners that we were pricing items that factory workers might buy, and so the store owners gave us two prices, one which would be charged first as a standard rate, and the second which would be the lowest price the owner would accept after bargaining. We have listed the second price - the lowest price workers would pay for such goods. We have also listed the least expensive items available. For example, out of seven pairs of women's dress shoes, we recorded the most inexpensive pair. |
