A typical meal for a factory worker: rice and vegetables. The basic wage without overtime would allow for a worker to eat 2 meals such as this, with tea or water.

The two project participants, Jim Keady and Leslie Kretzu, will adopt the lifestyle, diet, customs and culture of the factory workers and live on their prevailing wages over approximately a two-month period.

The project team hopes that by taking part in these activities, they will humanize the lived economic realities of the factory workers for those in the developed world. Below is a list of questions that will be addressed:

1. Food and Water
- What are the basic food needs and the costs of these at the local market?
- What is the cost of potable water and how much is available?

2. Child Care
- What is the cost of child care per day?
- What are the costs of a week’s supply of diapers, formula, and baby food?

3. Feminine Needs
- What are the costs of tampons, maxi-pads, birth control pills, gynecological exams, and pre-natal care?

4. Transportation
- What are the means of transportation and their cost to and from work?
- What are the means of transportation and their cost to and from town/market?

5. Housing
- What is the cost of rent?
- What is the cost of furnishings?
- What is the cost of utilities, including electricity, water, cooking fuel, etc.?
- How does the housing standard of the workers compare with the rest of the region?

6. Health Care
- What is the cost of basic medical insurance?
- What is the cost of a visit to the doctor?
- What is the cost of basic first aid supplies?
- What are the costs of medicines, vaccinations, and emergency care?

7. Education
- What is the cost of schooling for children in the region?
- What is the cost of basic school supplies?

8. Leisure
- What is the cost of a "night on the town?"
- What is the cost of beer?
- What is the cost of cigarettes?
- What is the cost of a movie or sporting event?

9. Management
- How do the workers feel about their relationship with management?
- What are the three things that workers want most from management?
- What issues would the workers like brought to Nike executives in the U.S.?
